Starfish Ocean Craft for Kids

This cute starfish craft is a great activity for summer, an ocean theme for preschool, or even for no other reason than to have a cute starfish friend!

Check it out!

Supplies:

• White paper
• Tempera Paint - orange, yellow, purple. Or any other colors you want on your starfish! (ps. I highly recommend this Crayola Tempera Paint.)
• Hole Puncher
• Scissors
• Glue
• Googly Eyes
• Black marker

How to Make it:

1. Paint a couple pieces of paper in the different colors you have chosen for your starfish. (We used a combination of yellow and orange on a paper for the starfish body, and other colors for the spots)
2. Let the paint dry for a few hours, or overnight.
3. Cut out a starfish shape (you can draw a shape on paper until you get it how you'd like it. Some starfish are fat, some are skinny. Some pointy and some round. There are many possibilities!)
4. With a hole punch, punch out some small circles from the other colors of papers you painted.
5. Glue on the small circles, and the googly eyes.
6. Draw a smile with a black marker. All done!

Book & Craft: Unicorn Thinks He's So Great

We read a really cute book the other day called Unicorn Thinks He's Pretty Great, by Bob Shea.

One of my favorite parts was where it said that the Unicorn made it rain cupcakes! I thought it would be fun to make a little craft to go along with this part of the book. If you want to do the same, find this book at the library or buy it. Sit down and read it with your child. Then start working on this fun and easy craft!

Mother's Day Balloon Craft for kids

Mother's Day will soon be here!

If you're needing a cute and easy way to say I love you to the Mother's in your life, this craft is for you. A lovely Mother's Day craft for kids! 

Supplies:

• Washable Paint (aka: fingerpaint, tempera paint, poster paint) in any color.
• White Paper
• Scissors
• Glue
• Craft Foam (any color)
• Black Marker
• (Need a good deal on supplies? check out our Supplies-Recommendations Post!)

Step 1: Paint a piece of paper in the color of your choice. You can use your fingers, a paintbrush, or anything you desire. Let the paint dry (overnight is good).

Step 2: Once it's all dry, fold the painted paper in half and cut out 3 heart shapes about 1-2 inches tall.

Step 3: Unfold the hearts and with a black marker write the words, "happy mother's day" -- one word on each heart.

Step 4: Cut out small pieces of craft foam and glue them to the back of the hearts. This will help them pop out a little bit. Just like we did in our Lego Birthday Invitations!

Step 5: Glue the hearts to the top half of a piece of paper. Below the hearts, draw a stick figure.

Step 6: Next, draw lines from the bottom of each heart to the stick figure arm. These are the strings holding the "heart ballons." Then draw a small bow.

Step 7 (optional): You can leave your stick figure as is, or if you want, you can embellish it with a fancy hair-do!

ALL DONE!

Witch Hat Craft!

Here is a fun and simple craft you can make with your kids this Halloween!

Supplies:

• Black & White Construction Paper
• Finger Paint in Purple, Yellow, and Green (I recommend Crayola Brand. Check out the end of the post for more details!)
• Scissors
• Glue

Craft Time!

1. Give the white construction paper to your child and let them use the finger paints to paint the papers: one purple, one yellow, and one green. Set them aside for a while and let them dry. (Overnight is good)

2. Once the paint is all dry, cut out one strip of the purple-painted paper (about 1 1/2 inches wide) and 5-6 strips of the green paper (about 1 inch wide):

3. Fold the yellow-painted paper in half and cut out half a square. Then cut out the middle of the square. This will be the buckle on the hat.

4. Fold a piece of black construction paper in half length-wise and cut from one corner to the opposite corner. 

5. Unfold it and you've got your triangle shape for the hat! Then from another piece of construction paper, cut a long strip about one inch wide. This will be the brim for the hat.

6. Glue the purple strip to the bottom portion of the triangle, and the green strips about an inch or so apart over the rest of the triangle:

7. Cut off the excess painted-paper hanging over the edges of the triangle:

8. Glue the black strip onto the bottom of the triangle, and the yellow buckle on top of the purple strip. All done! Hang up your cute hat craft as a fun Halloween decoration!

Apple Stamp Craft

An apple craft a day,

keeps the school jitters away! :)

Here is a fun way you can use a real apple to make a real cute apple craft!

Supplies:

• White paper
• White cardstock
• Scissors
• Tape
• Red paint (like this: Crayola Paint)
• Apple
• Fork

Craft Time!

1. Draw a small and simple apple shape on a piece of white paper.

2. Cut it out and tape it onto the middle of a piece of white cardstock:

3. Cut an apple in half and stick a fork in it (the fork makes it much easier to hold when painting).
4. Squirt some red paint onto a plate.
5. Give the apple and paint to your child and let them go at it! Stamping all over the paper and apple shape.

6. When they are done stamping, but before the paint dries, take the apple shape off of the paper. Then let it all dry.

All done! You've got a great apple craft!

If you want, you can even have your child put something in the middle of the white apple shape like:

-write their name

-draw a picture of themselves

-glue on a picture of themselves

And best of all, this is 2 crafts in one! 

You can hang up this little painted apple to enjoy as well!

Basketball Craft for Kids

We did this craft in the height of March Madness and the kids loved it.

But if you've got little ones who enjoy sports, this is a fun craft for any time of the year!

Supplies:

• White paper
• Orange paint (fingerpaint, tempera paint, or poster paint) or mix red and yellow to get orange. :)
• Black marker
• Toilet Paper tube
• Bubble wrap
• Tape

Prep Work:

1. Tape a small piece of bubble wrap onto your TP tube. Or if you have 2 little ones, cut the tube in half and then tape the bubble wrap on.

2. On white paper, draw a simple Basketball shape: Circle. Line from top to bottom. Line from side to side. Then two curvy lines on each side. Draw as many as your kids want to paint!

Craft Time!!

1. Have your child dip their TP tube bubble-wrap into the orange paint and roll it over the basketball drawing. The bubbles kind of mimic the bumpy texture of a real basketball. :)

2. Let it dry....

3. Then cut them out!

Easy Dr. Seuss Craft!

Here is a fun and super easy Dr. Seuss craft you can create in honor of 

Dr. Seuss' Birthday (March 2nd), or to go along with the book, "The Cat in the Hat"!

Check it out!

Supplies:

• "The Cat in the Hat" by Dr. Seuss
• white paper
• marker
• blue painter's tape
• red paint (finger paint / poster paint / tempera paint)
• scissors

Craft Time!

  1. If you want, you can read the book, "The Cat in the Hat," by Dr. Seuss before or after you do your craft. :)

2. With a marker, draw a tall hat shape onto a piece of white paper:

3. Next, place several strips of the blue painters tape across the hat, like so:

4. Give your child a blob of red paint and a paintbrush and let them paint all over the paper:

5. Take the blue tape off of the paper, to reveal the white paper underneath making perfect stripes in the hat!
6. Cut out the hat with scissors:

**TIP: We waited for the paper to dry overnight before we took off the blue tape. I think the dried paint over the tape made it a bit harder to peel off and it thus ripped the paper a little bit. Not too big of a deal, but it might be good to try to take the carefully peel off before the paint dries completely. :)
