Mother's Day Balloon Craft for kids

Mother's Day will soon be here!

If you're needing a cute and easy way to say I love you to the Mother's in your life, this craft is for you. A lovely Mother's Day craft for kids! 

Supplies:

• Washable Paint (aka: fingerpaint, tempera paint, poster paint) in any color.
• White Paper
• Scissors
• Glue
• Craft Foam (any color)
• Black Marker

Step 1: Paint a piece of paper in the color of your choice. You can use your fingers, a paintbrush, or anything you desire. Let the paint dry (overnight is good).

Step 2: Once it's all dry, fold the painted paper in half and cut out 3 heart shapes about 1-2 inches tall.

Step 3: Unfold the hearts and with a black marker write the words, "happy mother's day" -- one word on each heart.

Step 4: Cut out small pieces of craft foam and glue them to the back of the hearts. This will help them pop out a little bit. Just like we did in our Lego Birthday Invitations!

Step 5: Glue the hearts to the top half of a piece of paper. Below the hearts, draw a stick figure.

Step 6: Next, draw lines from the bottom of each heart to the stick figure arm. These are the strings holding the "heart ballons." Then draw a small bow.

Step 7 (optional): You can leave your stick figure as is, or if you want, you can embellish it with a fancy hair-do!

ALL DONE!

I was trying to find the perfect quote about Motherhood to share this Mother's Day, but after a horribly imperfect day as a mother, everything I read just made me feel like a big fat failure. 

Then I saw this video, and I cried. 

I cried tears of sorrow for my endless weaknesses, mistakes and imperfections as a mother.

But mostly I cried tears of joy and hope in remembering that I am not alone--that with the Lord's help, I can do this. 

Bad days (like today) remind me that I cannot do this on my own --- I'm too impatient, too selfish, too exhuasted, too clueless. But my loving Father in Heaven already knows that and can strengthen me where I'm weak. I will rely on Him forever.

Handprint Flower Scene Mother's Day Card

The 4th and final idea for using the handprints in a Mother's Day card is this: A fun scene where the 2 boys' handprints are the tulips and sweet baby's handprint is the sun! 

You could even have one child do all the handprints, or make even more flowers on a bigger piece of paper!

Many fun possibilities. 

Supplies:

• Paint
• Cardstock
• Scrapbook paper
• Scissors
• Glue
• Markers

Here's what you do:

1. Using the paint, have the child/children stamp their handprints on cardstock.
2. When the paint is dry, cut out 1 handprint (preferably a yellow one) to be the sun. Cut around the other handprints in the shape of tulips.
3. Glue them on pieces of scrapbook paper and cut around them in bigger sun and tulip shapes.
4. Glue them together, then glue them onto a piece of cardstock or other big paper.
5. Add sun rays with a yellow marker
6. Add stems to the tulips with a greenish scrapbook paper.
7. You can leave it as a big piece of paper, or fold it up into a card and decorate the front if you wish.

Handprint Circles Mother's Day Card

The 3rd idea for using handprints in a Mother's Day Card is this Circle Card! It's a fun,easy, and interactive way to display each child's handprint individually, or you could use 2 handprints per child and write different messages on them!

Supplies:

• Paint
• Cardstock
• Scrapbook paper
• 1 brad
• Scissors
• Glue
• Marker

Here's what you do:

1. Using the paint, have the child/children stamp their handprints on the cardstock.
2. When it's dry, cut around the handprints in a circle
3. Glue the circle handprints onto pieces of scrapbook paper and cut around them in bigger circles.
4. Place them all on top of each other, with the smallest ones on top and place a brad through the tops of all the paper circles.
5. Write your messages on with the marker wishing a special mom in your life a very....

Hanging Handprint Flowers Mother's Day Card

The 2nd Handprint Mother's Day Craft we came up with was to use the handprints as the center of some pretty flowers that all hang on a strip of paper! You can add as many flowers as you want depending on how many little handprints you want to use! (We did 1 handprint per child, but you could also have each child do BOTH their hands.)

Supplies:

• Paint
• Cardstock
• Scrapbook Paper
• Scissors
• Glue
• Marker

Here's what you do:

1. Using the paint, have the child/children make handprints on white cardstock.
2. When the paint is dry, cut around the handprints in a circle to use as the center of the flower.
3. Using a piece of scrapbook paper, draw simple flower shapes around the handprint centers and cut them out, and glue the handprints on.
4. Write the names of the children on their handprints, and a message if you want. 
5. Cut out strips of white cardstock and glue them together to make one long strip. Glue the flowers onto it.
6. Add a piece of paper to the top with white cardstock on it and write "Happy Mother's Day!"
7. If you want to, you can fold the strip in between the flowers so you can fit it inside a big envelope, or tied a ribbon around it to give to the special Mom you want to wish a very.....

Handprint Garland Mother's Day Card

The other day while we were painting, I had my 3 kidlets each put their handprint on pieces of paper 4 times. I knew I wanted to use them for Mother's Day cards for our dear Grandmas, and thought it would be fun to come up with 4 different ways to make fun Mother's Day Cards with handprints! 

Here is #1. Stay tuned this week to see the other 3 Handprint ideas for Mother's Day!

Supplies:

• Paint
• Cardstock
• Scrapbook Paper
• Hole-puncher
• Ribbon
• Scissors
• Glue
• Marker

Here's what you do:

1. Stamp your child/children's handprints on the cardstock and cut them out in squares. (You can have each child do one handprint, or 2--however many you'd like!)
2. Cut out squares of scrapbook paper and glue the handprint on.
3. Using the hole-puncher, place a couple holes on the tops of each square.
4. Lace a ribbon through the holes and tie the ribbon on the ends so it can be hung up.
5. Write Happy Mother's Day on the paper and the names of each child's handprint.
6. You can put this inside a big envelope and mail it to someone you want to wish a very.....
