Singing Time: St. Patrick's Day Game!

Here is another idea for the circles I used in our Energetic St. Patrick's Day Game. I used them in a NEW way in our Primary singing Time at church! You could use this idea for singing time at church, preschool or just to sing songs at home. It's very simple, and the kids LOVED it.

♪ Supplies:

• 16 paper circles (10 with smiley faces, 6 with clovers). Check out how to make them HERE.
• Tape
• File Folder

♪ Prep Work:

1. Put a small piece of tape on each circle (on the same side as the smiley face and clovers). 

2. Tape them to the inside of a file folder (this makes it much easier to transport to church or preschool. You just pull it out, open it up and you're all ready to go!)

3. Next, write numbers on the back of all the circles.

4. Make a list of the songs you want to sing. 

♪ Singing Time!

Start your singing time with your first song. After the children sing the song, ask one to choose a number from 1-16. Flip that circle over.

• If they get a SMILEY FACE -- then they all sing that same song over again!

• If they get a LUCKY CLOVER then you move onto the next song! 

         (I had a list of songs I wanted to practice, but if they get the lucky clover, you could also let them CHOOSE what song they want to sing next.) :)

The kids LOVED this simple little activity. It was so funny to see their reactions if they got a CLOVER. They thought it was the best thing ever to sing a different song. And getting kids excited to sing is a simply awesome. :)

Paper Scrap Clover Craft

Here is a super easy craft you can do with your kids this St. Patty's Day!

All you need is green construction paper, scissors, and glue!

Craft Time!

1. Fold a piece of green construction paper in half, and draw half of a 4 leaf clover. Then cut it out, like this:

Unfold it and you've got a 4 leaf clover!

2. With another piece of green construction paper (and the scraps from the clover paper) cut up rectangles and squares. They don't have to match, just cut up some scraps.

3. Next, have your child help you scrunch up all those scraps:

4. Put glue all over the clover and have your child place the scrunched up papers on top!

5. Let it dry and enjoy!

Easy & Energetic St. Patrick's Day Game for Kids!

I love the excitement surrounding any Holiday.

Even St. Patrick's Day gets my kids excited and full of energy!

If your kids have a little extra excitement this time of year, here is a fun way to burn off some of that energy!

Supplies:

• White cardstock
• Green construction paper
• Marker
• Scissors
• Glue

Prep Work:

1. Use a small cup (or something else round) and trace 24 circles onto a couple pieces of white cardstock. Mine are about 2 1/2" big.

2. Cut them out. (*HINT: You can also use the stack & cut method I always use: Trace onto one paper and put 1-2 more underneath to cut out more at once!)

3. Using the green construction paper, draw and cut out 6 small clover shapes that fit onto the circle.
     OR you can draw clover shapes right onto 6 of the circles with a green marker.

4. Glue the clovers onto 6 of the circles.

5. On the rest of the circles, draw a smiley face with a marker.

Time to Play!!

• Lay out all the circles on a table or floor.
• Take turns choosing a circle and turn it over. 

• If you get a SMILEY FACE ---- RUN to the nearest mirror and show yourself your biggest smile!

• If you get a LUCKY CLOVER ---- JUMP up and down as you say, "Hooray! Hooray! Today is my LUCKY DAY!"

Shamrock Puzzle Match - St. Patrick's Day Activity for Kids

Here is a super quick and easy activity you can make for your little ones this St. Patrick's Day!

All you need is some GREEN craft foam!

Prep Work: 

1. Trace a 4 leaf clover shape onto green craft foam so you have 6 shamrocks. To get a good shamrock shape you can:

• Trace a cookie cutter.
• OR a shape you print off your computer.
• OR you can draw your own!        

2. Cut them all out.

3.  Next, draw different lines down the middle of each shamrock with a pencil :

4. Cut each shamrock in half on the lines you drew:

Time to Play!!

• Lay out all the pieces. 
• Have your child find the matching pieces and put the shamrocks back together!

• You could add another element of fun by hiding the shamrock pieces in a room and having your child search for them before putting them all together. :)

Clover Cards

A few days ago, I posted about a Shamrock Garland LB(3) and I made. 

We had a little bit of the paper left over, so I decided to use it to make these cute little clover cards to send to our loved ones for St. Patrick's Day!

Here's how it all came about:

• I mixed up some green tempera paint and let LB go to town painting 3 pieces of white paper however he wanted to.

• After it dried, I traced big shamrock shapes onto it and cut them out for the Shamrock Garland. And with the scraps leftover, I traced smaller shamrocks and cut those out to use for cards!

• I simply cut and folded several pieces of white paper for the card. I made sure they were a size that would fit in the envelopes I had on hand. 

• To give the clover a little bit more dimension, I cut a scrap piece of craft foam and glued it on the card, and glued the clover onto that. This helps it pop out a little bit from the paper.

• We're going to write a happy little greeting inside and mail it off to a few loved ones far away!

Shamrock Garland: St. Patrick's Day Craft

LB(3) has been asking to paint the past few days. So I let him at it, and then together we created a fun St. Patrick's Day decoration out of his masterpieces!

How to Make it!

• Pour some washable green tempera paint into a bowl (or pour in yellow and blue and mix up some green---that's what we had to do since we don't have any green paint :)).
• Give your child a paint brush and some paper and let them PAINT!

• Set aside the papers to dry: 

• Once the paint is all dry, turn the papers over and trace a shamrock shapes on the back. (We still have some shamrock cutouts that I got on clearance after St. Patty's Day 4 years ago. I used one of those to trace.)

• Then cut the shamrocks out!

•  Use a hole puncher and punch 2 holes at the top of each shamrock.
• Cut a long piece of string or yarn and have your child tread the shamrocks onto the string.
• Tie loops on each end of the string and pin it up somewhere in your home!

*P.S. The best finger paints around are by Crayola. They are the perfect consistency. Not too runny and not too thick. And best of all they are completely washable--and so easy to wipe off tables, fingers, and wash out of clothes. I HIGHLY recommend them for painting crafts with kids. 
And there is a great deal on Amazon right now to get a nice set of 12 different colors. In big bottles that you can use for a LONG time! Check it out!

St. Patrick's Day File-Folder Game

I've posted before about making super easy, fun, and cute File Folder Games using Scrapbook Paper. 

So I thought I'd add to my Homemade File-Folder Collection with this one for St. Patrick's Day!

How to Make it:

• Look through any paper or scrapbook paper you have for any and all shades of green (I used 8 different green papers)
• Cut out 2 3"x3" squares from each paper -- (so you can cut out 2 matching shamrocks of each pattern).
• Fold one of the squares in half and draw half of a four leaf clover. It looks kind of like a capital letter B, with a little triangle on the bottom for the stem, like this:

• Cut it out, and unfold it. If it looks a little funny to you, just try to round it out and make it how you want it. THIS one will be your template. :)

• Stack 3-4 of the squares on top of each other. On the top square, trace the template clover. Then hold the stack of squares and cut them out. Do this until all the clovers are cut out. 

• Pull out a manila file-folder and glue one of each of the matching clovers onto it (I used a glue stick).

How to Play!

• Lay out the file folder, and all the clovers.

• Have your child match the clovers by placing them on top of each other:

• When you are all done, you can place them in a ziploc baggie and put them away in the file folder.
