Easily Hang up Party Balloons!

For our recent Lego Party, I decided to try this idea that I found on Pinterest. (There are SO many pins about making a Balloon Garland that I don't know who to credit....so I'll just credit Pinterest). :)

This is really easy, and doesn't need much explanation, but there are a few tips I have if you want to try this.

Step 1: Blow up all the balloons you need!

Step 2: Cut a long piece of thread (however long you want your garland to be).

Step 3: Tape the end of your thread where you want your garland to start to hang. I used blue painters tape. I also recommend wrapping the end of the thread around the tape once or twice so it doesn't slip out. Push the tape on good! Maybe even double tape it for good measure. :)

Step 4: Get a needle and thread the other end of the thread through it. Then poke it through the tied end of the balloon, like this:

Step 5: Do that with all the rest of the balloons. :)

Step 6: After all the balloons are on the thread, tape the end of the thread up on the ceiling where you want it.

Step 7: Scoot the balloons along the thread to space them out evenly.

And there you have it!!

Here are a few tips:
**TIP 1: If you are going to alternate colors like I did, be prepared for a balloon to flop (aka run out of air and shrivel). :(
Instead of taking all the balloons off to replace that one color, just get a piece of clear tape and tape a new balloon to the thread in that spot!

**TIP 2: Make sure you follow step 3 (above). I didn't do that the first time. I just started threading the balloons and when I went to go hang up my garland.....it got so tangled that I just had to start again! Taping up the first end BEFORE you start threading will save you so much hassle!

Lego Party Games!

Want to throw a Lego Party?
Here is a very simple way you can add another element of fun AND cute decor to your party!

Supplies:

Game Time!
1. Cut each piece of cardstock in half, then half again. This will create rectangles the perfect shape of a lego. :)

2. On the front of each rectangle, draw 6 circles. A very simple way to make it look like a lego. :)

3. On the BACK is where you can get creative with how you want to use these legos. Here are some ideas:
  • Write the letters L, E, G, or O on each lego. Split the group into 2 teams and have them take turns picking a lego. The first team to get all the letters to spell "LEGO" wins!

  • Print out (or find stickers) of different Lego Figurines. Make sure you have 2 of each figurine! Put them on the back of each lego. Split the group into 2 teams and have them take turns picking a lego. Whichever team has the most matches at the end wins!

  • **This is how we used them**-- instead of having this be a Matching Game, I just wrote the numbers 1-16 on the backs. Before we did our Lego Pinata activity, I had each boy choose a Lego card. Then they lined up in that order. That way there was no fighting over who got to go first, and it was smooth sailing. :)

Depending on how you use this you may want more or less Legos. We used 16 and taped them on the wall.
You could also tape them all over the walls in different places for some easy decorations!
OR
Make a Garland out of them to hang up somewhere!
So many choices, so simply done. :)

How to Make LEGO Cupcakes!

For LM's Lego Birthday Party, I wanted to find those Lego-shaped candies to put on top of the cupcakes.
BUT
I couldn't find them!
So instead, I came up with an easy way to make my OWN Lego candies using Air-Heads!
Here it is!

Supplies:

How to Make your own Lego Cupcakes!

1. Unwrap an Airhead and cut a the end of it off. Trim the edges so that it is a rectangle.
    (Mine is about 1"x1 1/2")

2. Cut a few small pieces off the rest of the airhead--OR use some of the scraps you cut off when you trimmed your rectangle--and shape them into 4 small balls using your fingers.
**TIP: Wet a washcloth and set it to the side.
Wet your fingers slightly on the cloth as you shape the small balls.
This will help when your fingers start getting sticky. :)

3. Place the 4 balls on the rectangle. There's your LEGO!

4. Place the LEGO on top of a frosted cupcake!

5. Repeat with all your cupcakes.

Hope this helps anyone else looking for an easy cupcake idea for a Lego-lovin' Birthday!

Lego Straw Race!

Here is another SUPER easy and fun game we did at LM's Lego Party!
The boys had a lot of fun with this one. Check it out!

Supplies:

How to Play!

1. Give each child a plate with a handful of Legos on it, a straw, and a cup.

2. Have them each use their straw to try to transfer their Legos from the plate to the cup---by sucking up through the straw to hold the lego on the end of the straw!

3. Once they get them all in, they can either dump them back out onto the plate and try again, or give them another handful!

**Optional: If you want to make it a competition, you can see who gets done first, etc.
OR, you could have them all racing against a timer.
OR, like us, you can just let them have fun without any competition. And for these 6-7 year olds that was all they needed!

Lego Spoon Race!

One of the games we played during LM's Lego Party was this Spoon Race Game.
It was incredibly simple and easy. The boys LOVED it! This went perfectly with our other fun Lego Games: Homemade Lego Pinata

(Legos are a perfect theme for any birthday party for kids. There are so many cute products out there! Like these Lego birthday candles for your cake. And these cute Lego forks & spoons to all that yummy cake!)

Lego Spoon Race Supplies:
  • Legos
  • 2 Bowls or Buckets
  • 1 spoon
  • Timer (optional)

How to PLAY!
  1. Put a few handful of legos into one of the bowls and line the kids up behind it.
  2. Place the other bowl across the room/yard.
  3. One at a time, have the boys get a spoonful of legos and quickly take it to the next bowl without spilling their spoonful. Then run back and give the spoon to the next in line.

The boys had a lot of fun with this simple activity. Here are a couple variations you can add to it if you want:

  • Use a timer and see how long it takes for them to complete the task as a team
  • Set the timer for 3-5 minutes and see how many legos they can get in the bowl before the timer runs out.

How to Make a Lego Piñata

For LM's Lego Party, I decided to make a Lego Piñata!
I'm all about simple, and this Piñata is about as simple as they come.
It was a smashing success. :)
Check it out!

Supplies:
  • Cardboard box (I used an old diaper box)
  • Rope
  • Piece of wood, or a stick
  • Lots of Candy!!
  • Wrapping Paper in one single color
  • Scotch tape
  • Packing tape
  • 4 Styrofoam cups
  • Cardstock or paper to match the wrapping paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue

How to Make a LEGO Piñata!

1. Put a small hole at the top of the box so your rope can go through.

2. On the inside of the box, tie the end of the rope to a piece of wood or stick. This will help secure the rope so the Piñata won't fall off when you hang it up. :)

3. Fill the box with candy and tape it shut.

4. Wrap your box like a present with the wrapping paper.

5. When you get to the hole with the rope, cut the paper to go around it. Then use some packing tape to secure the hole so it won't rip. :)

6. Next, cut the tops off of 4 styrofoam cups. Glue these onto the front of your box:

7. Cut out 4 circles that are slightly bigger than the cups. Glue these onto the cups:

There you have it!
Your very own awesome Piñata!

This was a big hit at LM's party!
I'm pretty sure a giant lego filled with goodies is every boys' dream. :)
