Christmas ABC's!

A few years ago, we did an ABC Christmas Countdown!

 As we counted down the days to Christmas we decorated a letter each day with something Christmas-y. 

And some days we also did an activity to go along with the letter.

After the countdown, I put all the letters into a small photo album that we enjoy looking at each Christmas season!

Candy Cane Hunt

You may notice that we do a lot of "hunting" activities around here. I remember how much I used to LOVE to play hide & seek with different things when I was little, and lucky me--my boys love it too! Hunting for anything is fun, especially when they are delicious CANDY CANES!

Here's what you do:

• Get a box or 2 of candy canes and take turns with your kids hiding them in a room and then finding them!
• Variations:
• You can even make a rule that they have to be hanging on something if you want.
• Or you can hide them all on your Christmas tree and search for them on there.
• You could set a timer and see which team can find them the fastest.
• You could even play outside and hang candy canes in the trees & bushes in your yard!

Pilgrim Hat Activity

This was a fun and festive way to review shapes in our preschool at home. A great Thanksgiving preschool activity using a simple Pilgrim Hat! And best of all, it was so simple to make and LB(4) loved it!

 Pete the Cat - The First Thanksgiving is a perfect book to pair with this activity!

Supplies:

• Black & Yellow pieces of craft foam
• White construction paper
• Scissors & Glue

Prep Work:

• Using the black craft foam, cut out a pilgrim hat shape (a brim, and a slightly pointy hat, but flat on top)
• Using the white paper, cut out a strip. This will be the ribbon on the hat.

• Then glue the white strip onto the black hat.
• Using the yellow craft foam, cut out several different shapes. I cut out the 7 shapes you see below:

• Then bend each shape in half and cut the middles out. Now they are buckles!

How to Play!

• Lay out all the shapes and the hat. Name a shape and have your child place that shape on the middle of the hat as the buckle. :)
• You could also hide the shapes around the house and have your child search for them, name them, then put them on.
• LB(4) and I also played a guessing game. One of us would turn around while the other placed a buckle on the hat. Then we would try to guess what shape the buckle was. When we got it right, we switched. :)
